INTRODUCTION
Community resource studies were conducted by the Community Action
Group (CAG), a group of volunteers dedicated to the economic growth
and stability of Southeast Georgia communities. CAG operates within
the framework of The Camden Partnership Inc., a parent organization
that supports and funds CAG operations. In August of 2003, a group
of dedicated volunteers, businessmen and women, and concerned
citizens determined that a dedicated level of effort was needed to
develop stronger community ties with the Naval Submarine Base at
Kings Bay (NSBKB). Even more important was the need for the Camden
community to strengthen its own infrastructure to support future
growth and economic diversification within Camden County.
To insure the integrity of the data collected, analyzed, and
reported; and to better understand the community’s strengths,
weaknesses and resource base, CAG conducted a number of community
studies led by subject area experts. The results of this work are
described herein from all sources and expanded to increasing levels
of detail based on the level of information available. These studies
provide information about the quantity and quality of support and
services provided by each of the subject areas. The geographic
boundaries of these studies include Camden County, the cities of St
Marys, Kingsland, and Woodbine. Neighboring counties of Glynn,
Charlton and Brantley are a part of the economic boundaries as
appropriate. Northeast Florida counties of Howard and Duval were
also included in the data collection process where applicable.
Most important is the level and quality of support provided by this
collection of communities to our largest employer, the Naval
Submarine Base Kings Bay (NSBKB). This support is primarily “outside
of the fence” and includes infrastructure(s), physical plant and
services. The skilled employee base within Camden County and
neighboring communities are economically dependent on NSBKB.
The areas of concentration in conducting community studies are
outlined below along with the names of the subject area experts
responsible for preparing the reported data and information. A link
is included with each on line technical subject area, which provides
specific results on the subject area of each. Detailed hard copy
data and information beyond the online information is available upon
request. The studies paint an “as-is” picture of where the
community is today. One objective of this collection of studies is
that it will serve all of our stakeholders as a common point of
